Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to reduce or increase the size of the labia depending on the needs of each individual. This surgery is performed to improve the appearance of the labia and reduce physical problems during daily activities.

The labia (lips around the vagina) are located around the opening of the vagina. The outer labia is called the labia majora and the large part of the edge of the vagina. This area has larger folds that protect your external genitalia and is covered with pubic hair after puberty.

The inner lips or folds are known as the labia minora, which are the small lips of the vagina. These folds of skin protect the opening of the urethra (the part where urine leaves your body) and the vagina.

During this surgery, depending on the reason for it, your surgeon will do one of the following:

It completely separates some of the labia tissue to reduce its size.
A filler or fat is injected into the labia to enlarge the area.
If necessary, it will repair in this part.

How is labiaplasty performed?
There are two general methods to reduce the size of the labia (labia minora and labia majora):

Labia reduction techniques
Trimming method for labiaplasty
During this method, the extra tissue is removed from both sides of the labia minora so that it becomes uniform with the labia majora and has a proportional size.

Vaj technique
With this method, both sides of the labia are removed in a V shape. Such a technique gives a more natural appearance to the labia. If needed, a part of the labia majora will be removed in the same way.

Sometimes, depending on the discretion of the doctor, instead of cutting with a knife, cutting is done using a laser.

Enlargement techniques
To enlarge the labia majora, the surgeon injects a small amount of fat from another part of the body, such as the abdomen or thighs, into the labia majora using liposuction. Hyaluronic acid injection to the labia majora is another option instead of fat injection.

All the mentioned methods are performed with absorbable stitches and there is no need to pull the stitches. The surgical site is covered with a surgical dressing. This surgery is an outpatient procedure and takes less than two hours.
